After her
husband has gone to the capital city for a long time, a woman takes his clothes
and belongings for sale.Her son wants
to be accepted as a member of a teenage gang. Theywanders the town aimlessly with their bikes.A grandmother take a broken heddle
which is an important part of a weaving loom for fixing. They are in the same
family living in a small village in Lopburi.Will they achieve what they are doing?Why they have to do?Let’s find
out.
I have been in
this village long enough to understand what is going on here.I hope this village can represent many
villages in Thailand that became more socially weak and gradually collapsed.And itmakes me think of my ownvillage.What I have tried is to
challenge every audience to think and interpret the message in the film.
In a Karen village deep in the
forest, their simple ways of live are gradually changed by greed.An NGO conservator tries his best to resist these
changes but in vain.The only thing he
can do is to explore his own persistence and suffering.
How can we
survive if the globe gets warmer?I am
very upset when hearing about natural disasters happening all over the world:
floods, storms, earthquakes, droughtiness.This film reminds us how humans relate to nature.Moreover, it tells diverse context of humans.
Finally, Wit
who loves his hometown has to make a decision either way.To staying in the village without family and
devote himself to social work.Or to move
from the village to northeast with his family.However, in the difficult situation, he promises himself to keep as much
dignity as possible.
Klity village, the film location, has been destroyed by a local
mining company.The lead smelting plant
was built and the tailings were buried.The company buried the tailings at sites not far from the Klity Creek,
the main water source of the village.The
ore has contaminated into the creek for fourteen years. The illegal company owner is at large which
seems to be as usual in my country.This upset story urges me to tell it to the
world that we should not let it happen again anywhere in the world.
The second film of the Pla Pen Wai Thuan Nam Group,
adapts from four short stories which are written by four greatwriter.The stories represent four poor people from
four parts of Thailand who are confronting four different problems.The film is made by combining four stories
into one by the railway and trains.It
is an independent film that is enjoyable but challenge interpretation.
Synopsis
Four low society people living along the railway in four
parts of Thailand are fighting for their lives amid lots of problems.In the North, “Tu Poo”, an old monk, attempts
hardly to teach younger monks, novices and temple boys of today society to
become calm and self controlled.Otherwise, the folks will lose their faith in monks and religious.In the Central, “Thu”, a young Myanmar labor
has to leave his job in a farm to ransom his wife or she will be sent back to
Myanmar.In the Northeast, “Kham Kong”,
an orphan, tries his best to be accepted byhis aunt and her husband as a member
of this poor family. In the South, Suan and Klaew are lovely neighbor but,
finally, they turn to be the opponents.These unimportant stories of four small people and their related lives
are linked gradually.As time goes by,
when we see their lives, we will consecutively understand the diversity of
cultures that form a man like us.
Director's Statement
First of all, my inspiration of making this film not only
comes from my love in Thai literature, short story and novel but also my
admiration toward the four distinguished Thai writers.Secondly, although there are the limitation
of budget and making money out of mainstream film industry as well as the
themes of mainstream Thai films which are likely to be funny, light-hearten,
loving, spooky or trendy,however I
would like to adapt one of an excellent Thai literature into film so that
viewers will have a chance to see the very few alternatives.Consequently, the wisdom, art and culture in
Thai society will be broadened and diversified.However, what has happened in the film industry is dependent on film
producers and the viewers who have their own reasons of choosing the best for
themselves, which means money and entertaining.So, we have tried to create an alternative for the viewers by making low
cost independent film with high quality. As a farmer's son, I intend to make
this film to tell my root story.The
“Four Station” is one of the best films I would like to share and to be a
representative of rural people in Thai society.They have been considerably influenced by western culture
negatively.By watching movie, we learn
from other people's lives so that we will understand more of ourselves.
